things i learned today

so... i have been using mininova.org for a while and today through lifehacker.com i found btjunkie.com. it's really good. i would recommend it over everything else. pirate bay and all the rest basically suck in comparison.

something else i found out today. two movies that i thought had awesome japanese scenery, Memoirs of a Geisha and Batman Begins, were both filmed outside of japan. i mean... wtf? geisha was filmed entirely in california! blasphemy! and the scenes that i assumed were filmed in hokkaido japan of batman were filmed in freaking iceland! whatever. so i searched around to see which movies were actually filmed in hokkaido and found nothing. what a joke. all these films where supposedly they were in the mountains in japan (only spot that i know of is on the north island of hokkaido) and i couldn't find a single film (non japanese of course) that had been filmed IN japan. horse shit!

there are three teams that work in my office and each team has a manager. well... one of the managers actually put in her calendar that she is going to talk to HR today about one of the girls that works for her. the manager woman is such a freaking moron. everyone has access to everyone else's calendar. so... my poor co-worker went into her bosses calendar to see if she was coming into the office today and saw that she is basically being fired. that sux. btw, her boss is a complete idiot and doesn't have a clue about what is going on here.

people at google actually say "happy friday." i want to kill everyone each time that i hear it.

if anyone reads this and knows how to create a jump for the blog will they tell me pls? i went to the help part and it goes through all the code and stuff, but none of it worked for me. i don't like code and never will. my brain works mainly only on the right side and struggles on the left. so... i can take a pretty picture or write a story for anyone that can help me with the damn code.

since this blog is about moving to alaska i guess i'll throw in something about it. today at work they announced that they are going to have a little party on thursday oct 12th. i asked to have live bears brought to the office in honor of going to the great north. they laughed. they don't know that i'm serious and that i'm bringing one if they don't.

down with the gooey gyser

in appreciation of all the people that have told me that they are sending me a mix cd for the drive i have made a mix cd of my own and will be sending it out to everyone. i am calling it "down with the gooey gyser." if that name intrigues you to the point that you think that you are going to make a feces in your pants and you absolutely have to have a copy... just leave me a comment and i will mail you one. hopefully before you make a mess in your pants. feces in pants = stinky.

so... we have an apt.

ok. since this is the first post... i guess i should do an update... bring ppl up to speed.

madeleine and i were in alaska a couple of months ago and fell in love with the place. i'll put up some pics so you can see why.

both of us were never set on staying in detroit after we had decided to come back to the u.s. so for my parents and others in detroit, it wasn't a huge surprise when we announced that we were moving. most people did, though, think we were nuts when they found out where. come up once and you will fall in love too. i promise.

ok. so... huge thank you to brook, joe's better half, for finding the apt on craigslist. it is on the third floor (which means that we have a view of the ocean and mountains behind it), has a fireplace and is furnished. the fact that it is furnished is big. it would've cost us $5000 to move all of our stuff up there. so my plan is to get a job up there and when we are ready to move into a bigger place to have the stuff moved up. no real point in doing it now anyways.

right now the only thing that we're really worried about is jobs. i'm going to start back at school in the spring to get my masters in teaching and mad wants to eventually open her own gardening company, but for now, for the winter, we need to just find something to pay rent for the new apt.

packing and planning is what fills most of our time right now. without the option of taking everything with us we have to choose what we want to take with us in our little saturns. another shocking part of it is the distance of the drive. i've driven to florida a few times and once to colorado. having done this i thought to myself, "ah... can't be that bad." then i saw this. it is about the same distance as driving from germany to india! wow.

joe sent me a couple of pics of the new place today and i almost made a feces in my pants. it is amazing. look at the pic from our front door. holy crap. can you imagine walking down to the car every day and seeing THAT? i can't wait.
